I am very happy to support this year's Whitley Bay Film Festival which begins on the 5th September with a visit from the festival's patron, Ian La Frenais, who will be accompanied by highly acclaimed documentary film maker Nick Broomfield. The festival will commence with Nick's documentary Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love, which is about the beautiful yet tragic love story between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse, Marianne Ihlen. Nick and Ian will then participate in a Question & Answer session following the film.
The venue for this opening night is the Crescent Club, situated on the sea front at Cullercoats. Other participating venues include St Mary's Lighthouse, Stephenson Steam Railway Museum, Rendezvous Cafe, Cullercoats Fishermen's Mission, Jam Jar cinema and Seaton Delaval Hall.
The programme of films, set in various locations around Whitley Bay and Cullercoats, continues until the 26th September with two screenings of Labyrinth (in its 40th Anniversary year) at the magnificent Seaton Delaval Hall.
